Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey. It will consist of four Power Units with VVER-1200 generation III+ reactors equipped with advanced safety systems. The total installed capacity of the NPP is 4,800 MW. The estimated life of each unit is 60 years, with the 20-year extension based on the results of the project safety assessment and approvals by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) of Turkey. After the commissioning of all four Power Units, Akkuyu NPP will generate about 35 billion kWh per year.

Materials and equipment supply for the NPP under construction is the result of a large-scale international cooperation. Most of the long-lead equipment for the four Power Units of the Akkuyu NPP, including reactors, steam generators, reactor coolant pumps, is manufactured at Russian enterprises, which are the part of Rosatom machine-building division. Turkish manufacturers, which have the required certificates, provide supplies of ventilation and heat exchange equipment, pumps, and pressure vessels.
